PEMIKIRAN ESSENSIALISME, EKSISTENSIALISME, PERENIALISME, DAN PRAGMATISME DALAM PERSPEKTIF PENDIDIKAN ISLAM

Abstract

Education as a system, according to practitioners, has aspects that are related to one another. These aspects include aspects of the objectives, curriculum, methods, teachers, environment, and facilities. These various aspects of education are formulated based on certain philosophical views. S. Nasution, for example, mentioned five philosophical schools that have influenced the concept of education. The five schools are perennialism, idealism, pragmatism, existentialism and progressivism. These schools are considered to have contributed to putting the concept of education by taking into account the trend angle in determining the existence of intellect and potential possessed by humans. This paper aims to dissect several schools of educational philosophy as well as to clarify the position of the concept of Islamic education as a whole.
