Abstract:
This research aims at describing the type of error at algebra’s problem solving process in the VIII’s students of MTs Negeri 1 Landakwho obtained high, medium, and low academic achievement. This research employed a qualitative approach. The procedure of selecting the subjects was purposive sampling. The data were obtained through test and in-depth interview. The technique to measure the validity was triangulation method. The type of errorwas classified into five:1) incomplete answer, 2) misused data, 3) technical error, 4) error originating from misconceptions of previously learned material, 5) distorted definition. The result that the which high achievement is on error of 1 and 3. The students who gain medium achievement is on error of 1,3, and 4. The students who gain low achievement is on error of 1,3,4, and 5. The factors are the limited time, carelessness and unrecorrecting the answer. Many students don’t understand the concept of algebric operation and the previous materials.
