Konstruksi Sosial Orang Kulit Hitam di Media Kompas.com: Analisis Framing Pemberitaan Kematian George Floyd

This study examines the social construction of Black people in the online media Kompas.com through a framing analysis of the news regarding George Floyd's death. The objectives of this research are to determine the news exposure of Kompas.com concerning George Floyd's death and to understand the social construction of the death case within the framing analysis framework. This study employs a descriptive qualitative method with a critical paradigm approach, utilizing Zhongdang Pan and Gerald M. Kosicki's framing analysis model, which consists of four structural devices: syntax, script, thematic, and rhetorical. The data source comprises seven selected news articles from the Kompas.com portal published during the case period. The results indicate that Kompas.com portrays the death of George Floyd as a clear manifestation of discrimination and systemic racism perpetrated by law enforcement officers. In producing these articles, Kompas.com implements a humanism ideology, framing the event in a way that emphasizes human rights violations and structural injustice while inviting readers to sympathize with the victim .
