Generative AI Policy

Generative AI Policy

Kelola: Journal of Islamic Education Management

Kelola: Journal of Islamic Education Management recognizes the potential of generative artificial intelligence (AI) tools to support academic research and scholarly communication. The journal permits the responsible use of generative AI tools, provided that their use is transparent, ethical, and consistent with the principles of academic integrity and publication ethics.

1. Author Responsibilities

Authors may use generative AI tools to assist with language editing, grammar correction, translation, literature organization, and other supporting activities. However, AI tools must not replace the authors’ intellectual contributions, critical analysis, research design, interpretation of findings, or scholarly judgment. Authors remain fully responsible for the originality, accuracy, validity, and integrity of their submitted manuscripts.

2. Disclosure of AI Use

Authors must disclose any substantive use of generative AI tools in preparing their manuscripts, including the name of the tool and its purpose. The disclosure should be included in a separate statement entitled Declaration of Generative AI Use, preferably before the References section. Routine spelling and grammar checking that does not generate substantive content may be exempt from disclosure, subject to editorial requirements.

3. Prohibited Practices

Authors must not use generative AI to fabricate or falsify research data, results, references, citations, images, or other scholarly evidence. AI-generated references and factual claims must be independently verified. Authors must not submit AI-generated content as their own original intellectual work without appropriate disclosure and critical review. Generative AI tools cannot be listed as authors or co-authors because they cannot assume responsibility for the integrity of scholarly work.

4. Editorial and Peer Review Responsibilities

Editors and reviewers must not rely solely on AI-generated assessments when making editorial or peer-review decisions. They must maintain confidentiality, protect unpublished manuscripts and personal data, and comply with the journal’s ethical standards. Manuscripts must not be uploaded to third-party AI tools when doing so could compromise confidentiality, intellectual property, or research participants’ privacy.

5. Editorial Assessment and Compliance

The editorial team reserves the right to request clarification regarding the use of generative AI and to assess compliance with this policy. Undisclosed or irresponsible AI use, including fabrication, plagiarism, or other forms of research misconduct, may result in rejection, withdrawal, or retraction of an article, as appropriate and in accordance with the journal’s publication ethics procedures.

6. Policy Review

This policy applies to all authors, editors, and reviewers involved in the publication process of Kelola: Journal of Islamic Education Management. It may be revised periodically to reflect developments in AI technology, scholarly publishing standards, and publication ethics.

By submitting a manuscript to the journal, authors acknowledge their responsibility to comply with this policy and all applicable publication ethics requirements.
