Abstract

Abstract:

Mathematical literacy encompasses the ability to formulate situations mathematically, employ mathematics, and interpret and evaluate mathematical outcomes in real-world contexts. This classroom action research aimed to improve students’ mathematical literacy through STEM-integrated Project-Based Learning (PjBL) and to evaluate the improvement achieved among 27 students of Grade XI Excellent D at SMA Negeri 2 Parepare. The study was conducted in two cycles, each consisting of four instructional meetings followed by one assessment. Test and questionnaire data were analyzed descriptively and using normalized gain (N-Gain). The mean score increased from 52.10 (SD = 26.54) to 70.12 (SD = 19.33), with an N-Gain of 0.36. The greatest improvements were observed in the formulate process and the employ process, while the interpret process remained the lowest. Students’ responses were categorized as good. These findings indicate promising development in students’ mathematical literacy; however, their ability to interpret results, assess the reasonableness of solutions, and evaluate solutions needs to be further strengthened through validation, argumentation, and evidence-based reflection.
