Generative AI Policy
MADDIKA: Journal of Islamic Family Law recognizes the growing use of generative artificial intelligence (AI) tools in academic writing and research. The journal supports the responsible, transparent, and ethical use of AI technologies while maintaining academic integrity, research originality, and the reliability of scholarly publications.
1. Permitted Use of Generative AI
Authors may use generative AI tools to assist with language editing, grammar correction, translation, improving readability, and organizing ideas. However, AI tools must not replace the authors' critical thinking, scholarly judgment, original analysis, or intellectual contribution. Authors remain fully responsible for the accuracy, originality, validity, and integrity of their manuscripts.
2. Disclosure of AI Use
Authors must disclose the use of generative AI tools when such tools have contributed to the preparation, analysis, interpretation, or substantive development of a manuscript. The disclosure should identify the AI tool used and explain its purpose and scope of use. This statement should be included in an appropriate section of the manuscript, such as an AI Use Declaration or Acknowledgments section.
Routine spelling and grammar checking that does not involve substantive content generation may be exempt from disclosure, subject to the journal's editorial requirements.
3. Prohibited Use of Generative AI
Generative AI must not be used to fabricate or falsify research data, results, references, citations, or evidence. Authors must not present AI-generated content as verified scholarly findings without appropriate human evaluation and validation. Any use of AI that constitutes plagiarism, misrepresentation, data fabrication, falsification, or other forms of research misconduct is strictly prohibited.
Authors are responsible for verifying all AI-generated information, including citations, references, legal provisions, case law, and scholarly interpretations, before including them in their manuscripts.
4. Authorship and Accountability
Generative AI tools cannot be listed as authors or co-authors of submitted manuscripts. Authorship is reserved for individuals who can take responsibility for the intellectual contribution and integrity of the work. Authors remain accountable for all content submitted to and published by MADDIKA, including any material produced or modified with the assistance of AI tools.
5. Responsibilities of Editors and Peer Reviewers
Editors and peer reviewers must exercise professional judgment and protect the confidentiality of submitted manuscripts. They should not upload confidential manuscripts, unpublished research, or identifiable personal information to public generative AI tools or other AI systems that may compromise confidentiality, unless the use is authorized and appropriate safeguards are in place.
Editorial decisions and peer-review evaluations remain the responsibility of human editors and reviewers. AI tools must not replace independent scholarly judgment or the journal's established peer-review procedures.
6. Editorial Action
Failure to disclose substantive AI use, submission of fabricated or unverified AI-generated information, or other misuse of generative AI may result in requests for clarification, manuscript revision, rejection, correction, or retraction of a published article, depending on the nature and severity of the violation and in accordance with the journal's publication ethics procedures.
This policy aims to ensure that generative AI is used responsibly and transparently while safeguarding academic integrity, author accountability, confidentiality, and the quality of scholarly publications in MADDIKA: Journal of Islamic Family Law.
