Authorship Criteria

IQRO: Journal of Islamic Education (p-ISSN: 2622-2671; e-ISSN: 2622-3201), published by the State Islamic Institute of Palopo, Indonesia, requires authorship to reflect genuine scholarly contributions, responsibility, and accountability. All individuals listed as authors must have made substantial intellectual contributions to the research, participated in the preparation or critical revision of the manuscript, approved the final version, and agreed to be accountable for the integrity of the work.

This policy is intended to ensure fair attribution, transparency, and research integrity in scholarly publications in Islamic education and related fields. It complements the journal's Publication Ethics policy and follows internationally recognized principles of authorship and contributorship.

1. Criteria for Authorship

To qualify for authorship in IQRO: Journal of Islamic Education, an individual must meet all of the following criteria:

  1. Make a substantial contribution to the conception or design of the study, the acquisition, analysis, or interpretation of data, or other significant intellectual aspects of the research.

  2. Participate in drafting the manuscript or critically revising it for important intellectual content.

  3. Approve the final version of the manuscript to be submitted and published.

  4. Accept accountability for their contributions and cooperate in ensuring that questions concerning the accuracy, validity, or integrity of any part of the work are appropriately investigated and resolved.

All four criteria must be satisfied for an individual to qualify as an author. Contributors who meet the first criterion should be given a reasonable opportunity to participate in manuscript preparation or critical revision and to review and approve the final version.

Authorship should be determined collaboratively by the research team at an early stage of the project and reviewed as the research progresses. The order of authors should be agreed upon by all authors according to their respective contributions and the conventions of their academic discipline.

2. Author Responsibilities

All authors are responsible for ensuring that their manuscript is original, accurate, transparent, and prepared in accordance with accepted standards of scholarly research and publication ethics.

Authors must:

  1. Present research findings honestly and accurately, without fabrication, falsification, plagiarism, or misleading manipulation of data, evidence, images, or results.

  2. Provide appropriate citations and acknowledgments for ideas, data, quotations, methods, and other materials derived from previously published or unpublished sources.

  3. Ensure that the manuscript is not under consideration by another journal and has not been published previously in substantially the same form, except where the journal has explicitly permitted an appropriate form of secondary publication.

  4. Obtain relevant ethical approvals, permissions, and informed consent where required by the research design, applicable regulations, and the nature of the participants or data.

  5. Disclose relevant financial and non-financial conflicts of interest and identify all sources of funding or other material support for the research.

  6. Ensure that all listed authors have made qualifying contributions and that no eligible contributor has been improperly excluded.

  7. Retain research data and supporting documentation for a reasonable period and provide them to the editorial office when reasonably requested, subject to applicable ethical, legal, confidentiality, and data-protection requirements.

  8. Notify the editor promptly if a significant error or inaccuracy is discovered in a submitted or published manuscript and cooperate in any necessary correction, retraction, or other appropriate editorial action.

All authors share responsibility for the integrity of the publication, although individual authors may have specific responsibilities for particular parts of the research.

3. Corresponding Author

The corresponding author serves as the primary contact between the authors and the editorial office throughout submission, peer review, and publication.

The corresponding author is responsible for:

  1. Providing accurate and complete information about all authors, including their names, affiliations, and contact details.

  2. Confirming that all listed authors meet the journal's authorship criteria and have approved the submitted manuscript and agreed to its submission.

  3. Coordinating communication among the authors and responding promptly to editorial queries and requests for clarification.

  4. Ensuring that relevant declarations, including conflicts of interest, funding information, ethical approvals, and author contribution statements, are complete and accurate.

  5. Communicating editorial decisions, revision requests, and publication-related information to all co-authors.

  6. Coordinating responses to questions concerning the accuracy, originality, or integrity of the manuscript, including after publication.

The corresponding author must not include individuals who do not meet the authorship criteria or exclude individuals who qualify for authorship. Designation as corresponding author does not automatically confer greater authorship credit or exempt other authors from their responsibilities.

4. Non-Author Contributors

Individuals who contribute to a research project but do not meet all the authorship criteria should not be listed as authors. Their contributions may instead be recognized in the Acknowledgments section, where appropriate.

Examples of contributions that do not independently justify authorship include:

  • General supervision or administrative assistance.

  • Funding acquisition without other qualifying intellectual contributions.

  • Routine data collection or technical assistance without substantial intellectual involvement.

  • Language editing, proofreading, or formatting.

  • General advice or assistance that does not meet the authorship criteria.

Acknowledgments should accurately describe the contributions of the individuals concerned. Permission should be obtained from those named before their contributions are acknowledged.

IQRO does not permit guest authorship, gift or honorary authorship, or ghost authorship. Academic rank, institutional position, seniority, supervisory status, financial support, or professional relationships alone do not justify authorship. Conversely, individuals who make qualifying intellectual contributions must not be omitted from the author list.

5. Changes in Authorship

Any request to add, remove, or change the order of authors after manuscript submission must be supported by a written explanation and submitted to the editorial office by the corresponding author.

The request must include the agreement of all listed authors and any individuals being added or removed. The editorial office may request additional documentation to verify the proposed change and determine whether it is consistent with the journal's authorship policy and publication ethics standards.

No change in authorship may be made without the journal's approval. Requests submitted after acceptance or publication will be assessed carefully and may require additional evidence or institutional clarification.

If an authorship dispute arises, the editorial office may suspend the review or publication process while the matter is investigated. The journal will not independently determine disputed contributions without adequate evidence and may refer the matter to the relevant institutional authorities for investigation and resolution.

6. Author Contributions

IQRO encourages authors to provide a transparent statement describing the individual contributions of each author to the research and manuscript preparation.

Where applicable, contributions may be described using the Contributor Roles Taxonomy (CRediT), including:

  • Conceptualization.

  • Methodology.

  • Investigation and data collection.

  • Data curation and formal analysis.

  • Validation and visualization.

  • Writing of the original draft.

  • Writing, review, and editing.

  • Supervision and project administration.

  • Resources and funding acquisition.

Authors should report only the roles that accurately reflect their actual contributions. A contribution statement does not replace the authorship criteria outlined in Section 1, and performing a single role, such as supervision or funding acquisition, does not automatically qualify an individual for authorship.

All authors should review the contribution statement and confirm that it accurately represents their respective roles before submission.

7. Authorship Disputes and Ethical Compliance

All authors are expected to resolve authorship disagreements in good faith and through transparent communication. Disagreements should first be addressed among the individuals involved, with reference to their documented contributions and the journal's authorship criteria.

Where a dispute cannot be resolved, the editorial office may request written explanations, contribution records, or guidance from the relevant institutions. The journal may suspend editorial processing while awaiting clarification and may take appropriate action in accordance with its Publication Ethics policy.

Suspected violations, including false authorship declarations, inappropriate exclusion of contributors, undisclosed authorship changes, or other forms of publication misconduct, will be assessed in accordance with the journal's ethical procedures. Depending on the circumstances and available evidence, appropriate actions may include rejection, suspension of publication, correction of the published record, or retraction.

8. Declaration of Authorship

By submitting a manuscript to IQRO: Journal of Islamic Education, the corresponding author confirms on behalf of all authors that:

  1. The authorship information is complete and accurate.

  2. All listed authors meet the journal's authorship criteria and have made genuine scholarly contributions to the work.

  3. All authors have reviewed and approved the submitted manuscript and agreed to its submission for publication.

  4. No eligible author has been improperly excluded, and no individual has been included solely because of their position, seniority, affiliation, or financial contribution.

  5. The contributions of non-author contributors have been appropriately acknowledged where applicable.

  6. Relevant conflicts of interest, funding sources, and ethical declarations have been disclosed.

  7. All authors agree to cooperate with the journal in addressing questions concerning the accuracy, originality, or integrity of the research.

IQRO: Journal of Islamic Education is committed to fair authorship attribution, transparent reporting of scholarly contributions, and accountability throughout the publication process. Compliance with this policy is expected of all authors submitting manuscripts to the journal.
