This study examines silence, patience, and listening in the communicative practices of the Prophet Muhammad through a thematic analysis of selected hadith reports. The study aims to identify how these communicative dimensions are represented in prophetic interactions and to interpret their significance within the context of religious instruction and interpersonal engagement. Employing a qualitative thematic hadith approach (al-dirāsah al-mawḍū‘iyyah li al-ḥadīth), the study analyzes selected reports from Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī, Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim, and Sunan Abī Dāwūd. The analysis focuses on textual evidence, contextual meaning, and interpretive patterns while distinguishing between the explicit content of the narrations and the researcher’s analytical interpretation. The findings identify three interconnected themes: silence as a communicative pause, patience as corrective and educational restraint, and listening as responsive and dialogic engagement. Silence is represented as a meaningful pause preceding religious clarification or instruction. Patience is reflected in restrained correction, practical explanation, and the avoidance of humiliation or unnecessary harshness. Listening and responsive engagement are illustrated through repetition intended to facilitate comprehension and question-and-answer interactions in religious instruction. The findings suggest that prophetic communication was not limited to the transmission of information but also involved attention to context, audience understanding, interpersonal conduct, and educational needs. However, the study emphasizes that the selected hadith reports provide context-specific evidence and do not constitute a comprehensive account of listening or a universal communication model. The study contributes to a more nuanced understanding of prophetic communication by demonstrating how silence, patience, and responsive engagement operate as interconnected yet analytically distinct communicative practices.
